Careless Whisker is the not-really-a-sequel to Claudia and Matt’s dog-inspired Sit! Here they expand their worldview to include scientists and snails, skaters and support animals, and an ineffective snake charmer. There’s also an enormous firefly, some placid inner demons and two earnest souls with birds’ nests on their heads.
Once again Claudia’s curious creatures and copious cross-hatching meet Matt’s wryly affectionate rhyme, rhythm and wordplay, and the combination is both funny and strange, occasionally sad, often silly and once or twice quite dark.
